Description

This in-person course covers introductory and foundational topics in the psilocybin-assisted therapy curriculum. Major areas are covered in this course are Oregon’s Facilitator Code of Ethics; historical, traditional, and contemporary practices and applications of psilocybin therapy; safety and the responsibilities of the psilocybin facilitator; psilocybin pharmacology, neuroscience, and clinical research; core psilocybin facilitation skills; and orientation and preparation of clients for psilocybin sessions. This course is required for students in the Certificate in Psilocybin-assisted Therapy program and open to others by application. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Learning Objectives

  • Access higher meanings, values, and abiding purposes and integrated these into richer living and more creative lives with respect to themselves and their patients (clients) in their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Effectively engage in self-care as it relates to being a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Identify the need for expanded self care with respect to their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Actively monitor themselves for bias and the role of privilege in clinical work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Prepare to provide professional psychedelic-assisted therapy services (Facilitation) and/or psychedelic integration therapy in ways that are aligned with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Prepare to provide professional psychedelic-assisted therapy services (Facilitation) and/or psychedelic integration therapy in ways that are aligned with the Oregon Psilocybin Facilitator’s code of ethics
  • Apply their understanding of how racial and cultural dynamics affect interactions between patient (client) and psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Apply their understanding of racial justice, including the impact of race and privilege on health outcomes, to their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Apply their understanding of the impact of systemic racism on individuals and communities to their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Apply their understanding of the impact of drug policy on individuals and communities to their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Apply their knowledge of the history of systemic inequity, including systemic inequity in delivery of healthcare, mental health and behavioral health services, to their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Apply their knowledge of the intergenerational trauma to their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Engage in responsible referral and support in their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Apply their understanding of ethical considerations relating to equity, privilege, bias and power to their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Apply their Awareness of increased vulnerability associated with altered states of consciousness to their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Demonstrate a capacity to engage in patient (client) consent to physical contact conversations within the scope of their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Describe and explain Appropriate emotional and sexual boundaries between facilitators and clients, potential harm to clients and consequences for facilitators of breaching those boundaries with regard to work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Demonstrate knowledge of history of abuse and power associated with Psychedelics
  • Describe and explain how to refrain from engaging in financial conflicts of interest with patients (clients) in their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Demonstrate reasonable expectations regarding client outcomes in their work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Demonstrate knowledge of traumatic stress and how it may manifest during a psilocybin experience
  • Describe and explain trauma’s relationship to the body as it relates to work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Describe how repressed trauma emerging during a psilocybin experience can be conceptualized and worked with as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Demonstrate knowledge of trauma and traumatic stress resulting from systemic oppression with regard to work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cultural equity and its relationship to health equity with regard to work as a psychedelic therapist (Facilitator) and/or psychedelic integration therapist
